The display never actually said that. That was just a joke for the clip show.
Anyway, I’m going to dissent here and say I actually kind of think it’s an appropriate new opening. I mean, the show started as being about the Simpsons but over the last nearly-twenty years, I think everyone has become as fond of the supporting cast as they were of the Simpsons family. Many of my favourite references are Principle Skinner jokes. How many people do you know have chuckled at someone bending their Wookie?
I think that, yeah, the extended couch-chase is a little lame, but that’s just for the premier, I’d wager. The rest of it stays pretty true to the original and gives some of the funnier supporting characters their due. The show could just as easily now be called Springfield USA as it could The Simpsons.
My biggest complaint is that the price display at the grocery store no longer scans Maggie as ‘NRA4EVER’. Also, the couch sequence lasted far too long for my liking. Kind of like the chicken fight in Family Guy, which, as we all know, cued the demise of an otherwise quality program.
WORST OPENING SEQUENCE EVER.
First new Facebook, now this! Is nothing scared?…
That wasn’t at you Calli… some of the other reblogs are a little bit much though.yeeeaaah welll they were obviously trying to squeeze as many of the peripheral charaters into the opening as possible. i don’t like it either, it just seems really forced. also, as if the simpsons can afford an HDTV.
The New Simpson’s Opening
I am completely disgusted. I don’t care if they are moving to HD, just redraw the original exactly. Matt Groening, end this.
